Just planning next winters overhaul on the CJ7, so along with the 5.9 V8 and 33's, im thinking about putting the YJ suspension on to the CJ, reports etc seem good but obviously they are trying to flog me the stuff. So, four questions:
any one done it?
how much hassle?
was it worth it?
kit form or robbing the breakers yard?
cheers, much appreciated

Rubicon Express. Its worth the $. Nothing like having all new springs, bushings, and shocks.
-
any one done it? Not yet 8-)
-
i cant see any advantage really cos they are both on cart springs and both work well with a good lift kit fitted.

I'm with Greggmo.
If you're gonna go to the expense and trouble of putting YJ springs on, why not convert to coils??

thanks, im flattered that my posts suggests such extreme personal wealth  fookin hell !!!!!!!!!!!

Are CJs 2" wide springs and YJs 2.5"??
The wider springs like a good upgrade and there really isn't anything as satisfying as all new springs, shocks etc.

coils gasp!
Oops sorry. Where's my taste gone suggesting coils on a CJ :-D
-
mmmmm, so its 50 - 50, its either gonna change my life or be a complete waste of money.... mmmmmmm again
cheers for the advice either way, probably the cheapest option then, until i've got £3300 hanging around

so, im gonna bite the bullet and go for the YJ suspension, but i also wanna do the 4 inch lift at the same time, so, do i need a YJ lift kit or a CJ lift kit?
cheers
-
if it were me i think i would go standard yj springs with a bolt on spring over for lift and supleness

Hi
I fitted fully carbon fibre springs from Flex-a-form in US along with adjustable Ranchos to My V8 CJ7
All Works very well
Like leaf springs with the bounce and rebound of a coil. You can adjust to road and offroad.
fantastic.

Whatever you do go Rubicon Express I 've run em for 10 years in either 2and half inch form then on to 4and half inch set that I have been running since2001 best money you will spend as a spring under.
You want the YJ springs as they are wider and more supple which is why people originally did the swap before all the manufacturers got their kits together
If you want to go spring over use the RE 1 and half inch lift springs that are specifically designed for spring over as the eye is reversed have a look at the pics on their website that will net you 7 inches of lift and you then can fit 35s with impunity....mmmn nice.
I also did a lift with 2 and half inch springs for a mate with Procomp man those buggers are stiff I had to take 2 leaves out of each to make em ride and hammer open the spring clamps, he didn't like em so off they came and now sit at the back of my workshop somewhere. So beware what you buy.
I think there are a number of us that are happy to big up RE.
The only other are ALCAN in the US and they will build what you want if you give them enough info. You can even get more wheelbase by specifying pin distances.
I'll stop now before I start on one...... too late
