Okay, changed to title, because I bought a Cherokee 4.0 limited, as I have a TD already so know 'more' about them than a Grand.... And nobody recommended getting a Grand 8-)

10w40 semi-synthetic oil and Mopar (Jeep) filters for the engine.
Dexron III ATF for the gearbox
GL5 grade gaer oil for the diffs, 75w90
Champion spark plugs, not sure of model number off the top of my head.

The 4.0 is happiest with the standard Champion plugs, and the cheapest place for them is a Jeep dealer. The same for the oil filter too.

Pretty reasonable condition, 116,000 miles 98, S reg.
All electrics work fine, engine purrs nicely, gear-box kicks down and shift smoothly.
The exhaust is 'dodgy', hanging down and loose-ish, after cat and the box has a patched hole in it, is Kwick-Fit etc the best place for one?
Rear springs are done, pretty saggy, where's best for them, scrapped TD? 8-)
p.s. even got half a tank of petrol in it :shock:

Okay, found another problem...
Transfer box;
4WD Lo = Ok
4WD Hi- PT = OK
4WD hi-FT = same as part time i.e locked in middle.
2WD hi-Ft = Ok, but PT light is on in dash.
The light was on and it was in 2WD when I collected it, the seller said it worked fine, and he had never used it in 4WD. I took it thinking the light would just be a bad connection or something 'easy', at it was defo just in 2WD, so knew I was doing no damage, as such..
Any ideas what the problem is? I'll have another check this afternoon and try and find a larger place to check it all out.

If the yellow part time light is on it's stuck in 4wd with the centre diff locked even if the lever is in 2wd position. You need to get it out before you break something.

The diff doesn't appear to be locked, but the light is on.
I found a small gravel area and checked it, and I can spin the rear wheels in 2WD, move lever to 4WD and no wheel-spin and when turning you can feel it is in 4WD (PT) but in 2WD it feels 'normal'.
As I said the light goes to green Full Time when put in 4WD FT, but it is still PT, well it certainly feels it when turning...
p.s. I checked the TC and it is a 242.

Are the rear springs the same on the pre face-lift models as post face-lift?

yes they are, if you change them take the long ;leaf out of your old leaf pack and fit it among the leaves on the new on and it should help with keeping the new ones riding correctly

Got my 'new' springs from the local scrap-yard, as you can see they must have been pretty new when the car was scrapped, they still have the labels on them. 8-)

Mike, the part time light is still on, but it is not in 4wd, is it something in the box causing this?
I have changed the transfer case oil, and have ran it in full time for the past few days, all appears well.

Check the switch on the transfer box.
