Title: XJ half door
Post by: GermanXJ on July 09, 2008, 09:40:55 AM
I built these for a friend while he was off in Iraq.  I built them from my old front doors.

The sheet metal that I welded on the top section is from my old hood.

Have you ever wheeled with a half door?  It gives you alot better view of whats going on outside the rig.  Also the germans get pissy when driving without doors.

I still dont fully understand it.In something like a CJ or YJ or TJ then i can understand having a half door with the roof off etc,but wirth a roof and everything it just dont quite suit the XJ.Just seems a lot of trouble for little gain really, why not just cut of the window surround, much easier?

The nice part is he still has his other full doors, and it takes about five min to change them out.  We are moving the window controls to the arm rest.  I am also building the inside of the door to be a cooler.  The floor of the door will have dimpled holes in it so the water can drain out onto the sill.
Was worth the time to build if just to have something different.

The young and old seem to be much the same.  Most of them give you dirty looks, and the cops pull you over to give you crap.  Turns out its not against the law they just feel it should be.
Dont get me wrong there are some nice Germans around here you just have to look real hard.
The club Dino guys, and the folks at Neurburg Ring are great.
