Has anyone tried this little trick to disable the immobiliser on a TJ before? I found the info on the US JeepForum.
1. Remove any necessary dash panels to gain access to the immobiliser unit wiring (mine was located underneath the steering rack.)
2. Press unlock on the hand sender unit to deactivate the immobiliser. (the dash indicator LED should go out.)
3. Immediately disconnect the immobiliser unit at the jackplug where it joins in to the main loom.
That's it - the immobiliser is disconnected, it can not reactivate and send a signal arming the system.
I was able to put the key in the ignition, turn-it and start her right up.

You can try, but the system on a US Jeep is different to a UK model. Worse thing that can happen is you'll have to put it back together.

mmm, ok to get me going but the insurance are insisting on some type of immobiliser fitted
hoping a re-programme will cure

like they can see if its working

this only works if the immobiliser switches off on the key fob
ie, if the system is working normal
mine isn't
