Title: Door Locking problem & Fuse Box layout needed
Post by: groomvroom on August 08, 2008, 02:47:00 PM
Hi all,

Just bought my first Grand, its a 96 LTD. Got as a list of isues to sort, one of which is the door locks. I can unlock all the doors and boot with the remote or the key but can only lock the the drivers door, all the other doors have to be locked manualy. Now the actuators are clearly working as it will unlock, I have found a few posts about the issue arrising from the chime unit. I have removed most of the lower dash and found the said unit, quite unlike the ones described but it is where the chime comes from, and cleaned all the contacts and checked all the solder joints,  also all the instruction I have seen state that the relays are in the glove box, mine are in the passanger foot well. I have had the door pannel off and cleaned all the connections with no luck. I belive there are two relays, one to lock and one to unlock but my car came without a handbook so if anyone has a diagram of the relay/fuse layout it would be very helpfull.

First thing I would do is disconnect the battery to reset the door module.

Hi thanks for the reply, tried that this morning, no luck. I still cant find a fuse box layout anywhere on the internet, seems that mine has the later layout of the 97/98 models.

Here is the distribution box and fuse box layout from my 97 GC where the distribution box is in the engine bay and the fuse box is in the driver footwell.

Hope this is of use to you

Fantastic, thats the right layout for mine. Is there a list for the relays in the relays in the foot well fuse box? They seem to be labled A to L but no identification, I am trying to locate the door lock relay.

I suspect the list of relays A-L will be the same if your relays are in the footwell or in the engine bay. Jeep seem to love changing things slightly all the time, suppose that's how every Jeep is unique.

Mine are in the engine bay, only fuses in the footwell.

Hi, have you removed your kick pannel? I can only see the fuses with the cover removed, the rest of the fuesbox and relays can only be seen with the whole kick pannel out. There has to be a key to the diagram out there somwhere for them to identify the relays by letter, what a knightmare lol.
