Title: Cherokee 2.8 CRD LTD Auto slow to rev up
Post by: tbou2 on August 27, 2008, 10:25:40 AM
Hi, I have a cherokee 2.8 CRD LTD Auto it has done 80000 miles, when i rev the car up it seems slow to respond and when im driving it it seems to want to go into a lower gear than I would expect when going up slight inclines, I know as its a 2.8 CRD its not going to be the most fuel economical car but I think it is using more fuel than it needs to be. Can anyone advise of what it could be before I take it to a diesel expert so I have a rough idea before they tell me. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks

first off do a service and change the autobox fluid and filter, see if that helps.
Must say I had one and sold it, had too many issues like yours, plus bad shifting. The main dealer reflashed the electronics on the box once, mad sod all difference so i traded it in for something else

Worth having a look on the LOST forums, a site dedicated to the Liberty (Cherokee KJ).  http://http://www.lostkjs.com  There are forums dedicated to the crd as well.

There certainly are a number of issues with the 2.8crd engine.

It is certainly worth changing fluids and filters, since transmission filter blockage can have an effect on the autobox.  Check fluid levels first.

I would get someone who's familiar with that model to drive it first. You might find it's normal.

Regarding the fuel economy, I average 25 to 27mpg with careful driving.  If I wanted use the power, I could expect to see this reduce to 20mpg or even less!

I certainly don't find the engine slow to respond, and with hard acceleration, the gear doesn't change up until it it's gone beyond the red line.  Normal driving and it changes somewhere between 2,000 and 2.500 rpm, and drops down a gear at around 1,500 rpm, depending on terrain and speed.

Hi

Thanks to everyone who has replied the advice is much appreciated, I didnt realise until I bought a Jeep how hard it would be to find someone who can advise or work on it unless I go to a main agent and incurr all those main agent costs (my fault I suppose should have done my homework). Must say though that it is a great vehicle and would buy another one tomorrow.

Thanks again
