Title: Grand Cherokee Brake Problem
Post by: Nexus on August 31, 2008, 08:27:52 AM
My Uncle has a 98 GC which has a strage intermittent problem with the brakes.  I mentioned it at last nights pub meet but thought I would throw it in here as well.

The problem is that the caliper on one wheel will suddenly lock on / fail to back off.  The breaks can be fine for weeks then it will happen.  It also does not always happen to the same wheel but moves around the vehicle sometimes the front sometimes the back.

Any ideas.

Cheers
Nick

will just be a sticky piston in the caliper or a sticky pad, remove the caliper make sure the pad slides are free, then spray some WD40 on the piston and work it in and out a few times

I had that on my TJ you'd brake it would be ok, sometimes one of the rear wheels would lock up

Turned out to be a front caliper sticking on occasionally, :smt102

lubricate the piston with brake fluid before refitting, wd40 can have a bad effect on the rubber seal

The servicing of the callipers is a very easy job. Have a look at this thread: http://www.birtydastardsjeepclub.com/fo ... highlight= (http://www.birtydastardsjeepclub.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7713&highlight=)
