Well not content with a grumbly diff,y'old 98 xj 4.0 decided to give it some of the above noise at low speeds in car parks etc...
Take it a UJ is on its way out but is there a conclusive test and how much of a PITA is changing a uj out???
Imagine it's the one that connects the wheel to the front shaft if that makes any sense.
Thanks in advance.

turn it on wheel lock this will dictate the joint at fault - if that makes sense...for instance if noise is apparent on left wheel lock it will be the right joint at fault.

Its a fairly easy job once the shaft is out, it can be done with a vice you dont need the Harbor Freight tool but its easier with it..

deffo not to hard bit fiddly if its ya first time but thats all

if it's the uj i swapped mine once the shaft was out in less than 1/2hr just using a couple of sockets, hammer and vice. fairly simple to do just remember to take the inner 'c' clips out first
-
Yes inner clips
Made myself look stupid after spending hour ith big hammer
Took clips off and tapped apart in less than a minute

We undoin' bras here or swappin' out uj's.
Thanks chaps doesn't sound too much of a ballache.
Lookin' at a slide hammer for the shaft or will she just rag out?????
-
With the clips off she'll just slide out.
Just be careful not to shove any crud back into the diff or bugger the seals on reassembly.
