Title: Another prob for Mike and friends..
Post by: copey on July 18, 2005, 03:11:34 PM: Hi Mike dont know whether you have the answer to this one... last couple of weeks have gone away for the w/e with the caravan,so the motor hardly gets used for 2-3 days,when I start up on the Sunday or Monday to come home,..nothing ,,the battery is virtually flat...(although have recently fitted a new one) and all the clocks and dates etc all have to be re-set ..I use one of those self contained starter packs which gets it going within a couple of turns..but.. the engine will not tick over,as soon as I release the throttle it cuts out,I have to sit with just a slight pressure on the pedal for at least 10mins and then very very slowly take the pressure off ,even then it struggles for a while until it finally settles down to normal. Your thoughts would be appreciated...before I hit something with a very large hammer.. copey.. :lol:

If the PCM loses voltage it forgets it's correct idle air control setting and has to re learn where to set the idle air stepper motor in order to achieve the correct idle speed. The thing to do is start the engine using a little throttle, then gradually back off the gas until the engine rpm drops below idle and the engine management takes over. It will usually take several attempts before it gets it right. If you have had a flat battery, charge it for 12 hours with a proper charger rather than just jump starting and relying on the car to do the work. Even with a fully charged battery a Grand can kill the thing if left standing for more than 60 days. If it still goes flat after a couple of days once you're sure the battery is 100% ok you need to start looking for an excessive current drain somewhere.

Post by: Anonymous on July 18, 2005, 04:56:57 PM: Also look out for the Bonnet light or interior lights staying on.... Takes about 3 or 4 days for them to drain the battery!
