I've just installed a transfer box drop kit on my YJ and now can't get 2nd, 4th and reverse gears. 1, 3 and 5 are fine, neutral is notchy.
Any ideas? I put a jack under the cross member, removed the bolts, dropped it down and fitted the new bolts. Was there anything else I should have done?
One more thing - I've torqued the new bolts back up to 30ft/lbs. That's what it says in my workshop manual but the old bolts were a hell of lot tighter than that coming out?

have you checked the obvious? with the bend of the gearstick dropping it can make it fail on the tunnel tinwork, cought me out when i fitted twinstick

yup check console or tub rubbing what gear box is it

It's p*ssing down here at the moment so work's stopped, but I'll go and take a look later. The movement feels like it's being stopped by rubber almost, if that makes sense. In other words it doesn't feel like the gear stick itself is hitting anything.

Erm, not sure. It's the 5 speed manual on a '94.

Chances are its the rubber on the levers , they do need trimming .
-
there is adjustment on the linkages too
I have had to adjust my TJ twice when i have changed stuff
-
Now that I know it's not something mechanical, I given the stick a bit more stick. All the gears go in but second pops out. I can't see any of the rubber above the floor fouling on anything, so when I get the chance I'm going to whip the gaiter off and have a look what's rubbing

check the linkages underneath, you will be able to see better when you drop the skid plate

Will do (http://http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i272/bennydotc/smilies/thumbup.gif)
