Hi all,
Im in need of some tech help.
I have a 1996 (UK (N)) Cherokee 2.5td Limited.
Last night whilst out shooting fox, I plugged my lamp into the cigarette lighter socket and I have, I think, blown a fuse but my stereo and digital clock beside the steering wheel has stopped working aswell
I dont have an owners manual for my jeep but I did manage to download a diagram of the fuse panel (in the drivers footwell) off the 'net.
Having looked at the diagram I went back to the car but there was no fuse in the slot allocated for the cigarette lighter (11 on the diagram) so I checked the stereo fuse (slot 10 on the diagram) but it was found to be ok.
Am I looking in the wrong place ? What else should I try ?
Many thanks

Trying to locate the right fusebox diagrams to a Jeep without having the owners handbook is a nightmare. They seemingly vary from vehicle to vehicle, nevermind year to year.
You could wait for someone to post it (there aren't many MKI diesel owners on here) or just check all the fuses one by one. Remember to check the fusebox under the bonnet and the one under the steering column.

I've checked the two workshop manuals I have, one is '93 the other is 2000 model years.
The 93 will be the more relevent I think, it shows the cig lighter and the radio on the same fuse, labeled as fuse 2, 16 amp. The 2000 manual also shows cig lighter on fuse 2 which is 25 amp.
Other than that sorry can't help.

the wiring to the lighter is bad, no substantial sized wire either so don't even think about using it to charge the battery as some chargers claim they can.
did the same to mine when i had one but couldn't find the problem or a blown fuse.
what you could do is pull the dash (not a hard job and takes about 10 mins to remove all the screws) and put a heavier guage wire straight to the battery with an inline fuse.
