Title: Any Vauxhall Technicians...Not Jeep but help needed
Post by: Tank on December 28, 2008, 08:35:48 PM
Need help.Went with a friend to pick up a 1.3 CDTI  Vauxhall Astra Diesel estate on a 55 plate. All was fine until after about 20 mile on the motorway, when my friend went to accelerate for overtaking, the engine lost power and the engine electrics light came on(CAR WITH A SPANNER).She stopped the car,re-started it and it was fine then for about another 100 mile then it happened 3-4 times in about 20-30 mile, always when trying to accelerate for overtaking, always restarting and pulling away etc with no problem.Pulled in at services and called RAC.Course they found nothing, and we then drove home following the A roads which were busy but it never happened again, but she was hardly into 5th  or 6 th gear.Any suggestions please????? Thanks in advance for any help given

Isn't it still in warranty on a 55 plate?

If the light came on there should be a code stored on the computer. I'd have expected the RAC man to have plugged in a code reader. If he didn't I'd get it read somewhere as it could save a lot of time and money trying to guess at things.

faulty ecu will be the answer from the garage and they will charge you for just trying it. get them to try one from another car before you splash out several hundred pounds. it sounds more like the ignition module which sometimes doesn't store the fault even though the check engine light gets shown. With the check engine light going out comming off and on might be a problem with the vauxhal spanner boys.  Al i can say is good luck and dont buy another vauxhall

Had this happen on an 06 Saab 1.9 diesel turbo

If this is same engine (I know the 06 model is) first it was a software problem then it happened again and it was the egr valve sticking

First it was only occassionaly then it got worse

aThanks so far for the answers.RAC man did run diagnostics and no fault codes came up. Local garage trying to say a gearbox fauly quoting 100`s but even i would not have said that,i was guessing electrical or fuel,so thanks to you seem to have narrowed it right down. Will check about the warranty thing too,but its just over 3 years old so dont think it covered.Cheers guys

I was wondering if this lack of power is just when you are in the car tank? does it improve when you get out?
