1998 cherokee jeep 2.5 td se uk model
just had my jeep for a few weeks and despite having to lash out many pounds for a new no 1 injector (i checked this easily with a resistance meter), and springing a leak from the heater matrix. i love it.
been having a good natured discussion with usa on removing the centre floor console.
despite many attempts by some very skilled friends, it seems the handbrake has to be come out or at least slackened off .however american owners state categorically that the hand brake can be left in place, the fsm also makes no mention of removing the handbrake.
(it would only take a few minutes to do but i use the vehicle daily so i dont want to disturb any thing mechanical at the moment)help
regards

ps.
(im removing carpets to dry them out following the leak.)
anone attempting this should watch out for removal of the gearknob, manual says slacken off locknut. but makes no mention of the fact that its almost impossible without damaging the shift pattern and/or gear knob.

the handbrake doesn't have to be removed. put the jeep in gear and release the handbrake, move the handbrake lever slightly up or down to allow the box console part to slide over. yep it's awkward but thats how its done. did one on a 2.5 petrol the other week

thanks dave, i cant really argue with that, but as there is only room to move the console unit forward about an inch the handbrake lever would have to go almost vertical, we have stretched the cable already.
also we tried removing the power/switch panel and tried lifting the front first
but no joy, unless we're missing something.
your reply was much appreciated
