Title: unsure what to do!!!!
Post by: bluesleeper on January 29, 2009, 01:44:21 PM
Hey guys,
My heater matrix is leaking and just wondered what kind of a job it is to change, and do you have any pics to guide me? I hear its inside part of the air con system? can I get away with not discharging it?
any help you can offer will be greatly recieved.

Cheers guys

Gareth.

On a 2000 2.5td XJ

If radweld or summat similar will not stop it leaking. To replace it from previous questions like this Ive read, I understand it to be quite a big job with at least half the dash to be removed if not a total removal.

Im sure someone more expert will be along later to confirm as I could be talking complete bollox.

Wear thermals and re-route the pipes to miss the matrix

Holy crap, this is the third Jeep in a few weeks with this proplem  I'm paranoid I'm next :-( .  I searched NAXJA and came up with this:

Part 1 http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.p ... +replacing (http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=963504&highlight=heater+core+replacing)
and
Part 2 http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.p ... +replacing (http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=963507&highlight=heater+core+replacing)

If you decide to pay someone else to do it let me know who/how much just incase I'm next lol.

Seems this job is a PITA whatever vehicle you have.

edit: Here's another writeup without pics, make it seem a bit easier don't it?

Actually it wasn't all my doing, my wife came out to see how i was doing and at the time i was stuck.
I couldn't find the six bolts holding the top of the dash on as the 'how to' wasn't very clear on this....
Within five minutes of being there she had found them and we had the dash out and ready to unbolt the hvac box!
How good is she!!!!
