using a permenant 4wd transfer box
would it be possible to drive a jeep in 2wd with the front propshaft connected without causing windup issues. the rear axle one ratio and the front a different ratio.
or does the front propshaft need to be disconnected.
-
IN 2wd then there wont be a problem cause the prop is disconnected from the transfer box internally.
-
But I would remove the front prop anyway, it only takes 10 minutes
-
i am with steve. pull the prop just to be safe dood.

If you've a perminent 4wd transfer case how are you going to select 2wd?
If it's a selectatrac then you'll need to use the semi 2wd mode. If it's a quadra track, don't drive with the front prop disconnected, and both axles need to have the same ratio gears in them, else you'll cook the transfercase.
-
thought as much, pulling the front prop tomorrow as just swapped the rear axle
-
you need to pull the front prop off, otherwise you might do some serious damage.
are you changing the front too???
if its on something like a ZJ perminant 4wd you should be fine pulling the prop off cos its a viscouse coupling an just puts all the power to the back.
i know cos i have a tail happy jeep again
