Does anyone know or have seen of a diesel engine transplant that could replace the VM engine
-
Anything pretty much could be made to fit. My preference would be the frontera 2.8 (not the trooper one
)
-
but Is that not aVM engine also?
-
VAUXHALL has dropped the Isuzu 2.8 litre direct injection from its Frontera engine range and switched to an all new Italian-built 2.5 litre turbo diesel from VM Motori.
depends on the cc's I guess
-
the was a guy doing a vw T4 diesel swap in London but i dont have the details. was looking around when i had a diesel but then bought a petrol for less hassle
-

Nope, the 2.5 is the VM - not a bad engine if they work :S
The 2.8 is an isuzu lump, but the trooper one has 90bhp, the frontera has a front mounted intercooler, tweeked fuel pump and puts out 115bhp with about 250 ft lb of torque, and they are 10 a penny due to them being in frontera's

stick in a lardy 200 TDI
Otherwise what peugeot TDs mate to the gearbox ?
-
I take it the td engine is untunable cos mine is slow as!! its fly by wire too so that helps.......NOT!
Is there anything that can be done to make it quicker?
-
It isn't that slow

they weren't built to be quick and there is not alot you can do to make it faster.
there is not direct diesel engine swap. any diesel engine you want to swap will involve some hassle and problems connecting the electrics.
speed = 4ltr petrol

i saw a left hooker two door that had a renult or puegeote engins owner rekoned it was standard offering in frog land reno had shares in jeep at the time the xj was gettin developed
-
Early ones had a 2.1 diesel from a Renault Master van.
-
Feck the diesesel off at the pass and buy a 4l
-
that's the point got a dead diesel thought about putting a different engine in it I have two 4ltrs that I drive
-
Cummins 5.9
-
what would the cummins be out of?
I like the sound of that...
Or i might swap for a grand with the v8 didn't they do a 4.7 and 5.7?
-
think it is a 4.7 and the 5.9 in the Grand
-
You think right Tank
-
What about a 4.2 turbo diesel unit from a Toyota Landcruiser??
I'm not sure which vehicles have the 5.9 Cummins over here - they're fitted to the larger dodge pickups in the US. My sister's horse lorry has one and it's a massive , heavy f#cker - I don't think you'd ever get it into the engine bay of a Cherokee.

Leyland Roadrunner, Leyland Swift midi bus/chassis. But just cus it says Cummins 5.9
on it doesn't mean it's the same as the 5.9 in a RAM 3500. The 5.9 is very tall and
a straight six, so it's probably too long.
-
4BT or 6BT??
-
6BT
-
Bugger weighs in at 700 odd pounds..... 6BT
and the 4 BT that some US guys have used has VERY narrow power band.
Last half million miles tho..... run off chip fat or whatever.... still be running after the big mushroom cloud......
