Do the 2.5td engines have a timing chain or belt ? If its a belt when should it be replaced?
Im hoping to look at a couple of Cherokee,s over the weekend weather permiting what problems should I look out for bearing in mind that they are in the sub £1200 price range and around 100K miles?
Cheers Bone idle :-)

they have a chian ,any signs of water loss overheating they cook heads most you see for sale seam to have problems in the head department

for the difference in mpg I would still run a 4.0 petrol or if you really need decent mpg got for a petrol/lpg cherokee. both are far better than the dreaded diesel.
-
even though the diesel is a good jeep, if not cared for from new they can soon turn into serious money pit. service history doesn't mean a reliable engine. take a serious look at the 4ltr petrol, cheaper to start with and parts more easily obtained. 100k mileage then you could be looking at turbo bearings starting to wear and the dreaded cylinder head failures.

Oh well on to plan B,C or is it D :banghead: Y
Thanks for the heads up :-D

They don't have a chain or a belt, they're gear driven.

actually seems as you are in brum, why don't you pop down to the club meet this saturday, there you can meet a few of us nutters and learn more!
-
Whyever not where,s it at ?
I,ve been looking at the mpg of the 4.0l and there is no way I can afford that. The lpg conversions seem the way to go but only if the tank is mounted under the jeep.

its at the old house at home on the main birmingham ,kidderminster road at blakedown.A456 ( a few miles past hagley, what side of brum are you on?)
