i think you need a new switch they overheat when they get old and flick on and off or after a while they get hot and pop off go the head lamps

you will need to replace it soon otherwise the last of the smoke will escape from the switch and you wont have any lights left

I thought that, but it could also be that his lights are full of dark and can't hold any more.
A new theory is that light bulbs don't emit light, but actually suck dark. Once they are full of dark,
they can suck no more and break. Batteries are one method of storing the dark that has been
sucked (batteries fail once they are full of dark). Mains powered dark suckers change the dark
into smoke, and this is sent back to the power station via wires where it is released through the
chimneys.

just as i thought......sneaky bastards

have a look here
http://www.go.jeep-xj.info/HowtoHeadlightLoom.htm (http://www.go.jeep-xj.info/HowtoHeadlightLoom.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;)
what you could do is add a seperate set of lights running of a seperate switch as a backup just in case
