Hi Guys, New here & hoping you can help me with a wee problem, I (well no!! MY WIFE) had a grand Cherokee bout 2 years ago & sold it for a Volvo ( Crap!! first post & I used a swear word!!!) I told her not to but hey I know my place!!!!!!
Anyways, last week she saw one on flea Bay & decided to bid it .....Ok she won it & I picked it up yesterday (96 on an N Plate with 77K on the clock) Runs really well, well it did coming back from Dudley, ( I live in Blackpool)
went out fer a "Tinker" this morning & noticed it "Rattles" when moving, sounds like it's coming from the front offside wheel..... It's not a "Rattle" as you'd think more it sounds like it draggin summott along the floor..bit like someone's tied a tin of peas to the tow ball & its draggin along the road!!!
Deffo Front Offside wheel & only when moving along.
All bright ideas welcomed with open arms
Cheers

howdo m8, sounds daft , just check underneath make sure u aint draggin owt along off the road, could be u j knackered .backplate touching the brake disc, pads on metal ,
-
a knackered u joint will be felt more as a juddering when driving off or turning a corner. sounds more like a rusted back plate as these are held firmly in place by the wheel hub, you might have a bit of gravel or a stone caught between the back plate and disk

Welcome to the forum,
What wheels does it have fitted? I once had a similar problem with my TJ running on standard steel wheels with the plastic centre caps. One of the caps had stone in it which as slow speed used to rattle around, but anything over 15/30 mph; the centrifugal force held it in place and the rattle stopped.
Also, for what it’s worth, discarded the back plates on my TJ at the first opportunity!

Sounds like it. Any up and down movement in the shaft means it's toast.
