Title: gerabox oil change
Post by: tree man on April 09, 2009, 07:17:56 PM
In a moment of boredom I decided to change the oil in the gearbox and transfer box in my  X reg 2.5dt Cherokee. No probs with the transfer box.
I removed the plug on the bottom of the gearbox (manual) and left it to drain. Put the plug back in and removed what I'm sure was the filler plug which was situated on the nearside of the box a couple of few inches up the side. I couldn't see anything else to remove that might be another option. The point of this ramble is that all the manuals and info I've seen say that the box holds around 3l of oil, I only managed to get about 1.75l of oil back in before it came back out the hole  :-?
Do you have to do something clever to get all the oil out? (jack the back up as the gearbox does slope down at the back)
Am I filling the wrong hole (fnrr fnrr)
Are the manuals wrong?
Unfortunately I didn't measure how much came out

It should take about 3L of oil. It is a special Mopar oil for the NV3550 transmission, not the ususl 75W90 gear oil like the earler ones with the AX15.
