obviously you have tried these and dont like them

running these on my xj at the moment all beit 15" size. had them on now for over two years. now worn down to half the thread depth. not loud on the road, good grip in the wet and do perform adequately off road. no issues with them

I run muds and the are noise & vibe free at speed. A decent set correctly balanced will be fine

Stay well clear of remoulds if you like civilised motorway and other road driving - In my opinion just stay well clear all together. Tyres aren't something to save a few quid on, get good ones and they'll last longer, drive better, give you better peformance off road, be safer!, look nicer

i'm not an advocat of remoulds but they aren't what they used to be. Colways are remoulds and they are the clubman rally choice and track racers used to choose them before they went bust. most of the other tyres are made to BSI stds and carry the E mark which is a requirement for them to be legal to use on the road, so are as good as any other tyre on the road. As for the risk of delaminating the tread which is always at the back of anyones mind when retread is mentioned, the chances of it happening are very slim in this day.

I would rather use a european remould than some of the dodgy aisian tyres that you can buy these days

whats wrong with the grabbers then, lots of praise here and cheaper than bfg

BFG A/T' are a good pattern and there are reports of 120k out of them but you are paying for a very premium tyre...

My General Grabber AT2 are shed loads better than old spc AT tyres but are only wearing due to roundabouts in the shire...laning no complaints.....

i can`t get to him for 2 weeks now, so they might go, but will have more time to save...
have asked if they are the kinda thing he can get hold of, just pissed i couldn`t make it today
cheers for help

Ive got general grabber AT2's on my Hilux where they've lasted about 30,000 miles and ive also got a set for my Jeep and they are very good off road. I recommend them to everyone if you want a mixed tyre for your vehicle and they must be at least £30 a corner cheaper than the BFG's which i will freely admit are very good tyres as well.
Mud terrains would do my head in with the noise especially on a long journey suppose it all depends how much noise and vibration you can live with and someone better mention the stopping distance of a mud terrain in the wet/ice as well, id rather slam on the brakes with 2 ton of truck with the AT2s anyday.

Place I use now, grabbers for £82.57 a corner

The KPC is a copy of a Michelin, basicly a road tyre & fill up with mud very easily

OK, you're not going to find "grabbers at2" on ebay. As Stew and Steve have said, you
are looking for "General Grabber AT2s". The Brand is "General Grabber" and this model is the
"AT2". OK?

????

That's not how search engines work.

http://shop.ebay.co.uk/?_from=R40&_trks ... Categories (http://shop.ebay.co.uk/?_from=R40&_trksid=m38&_nkw=grabber+at2&_sacat=See-All-Categories" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;)

plenty of grabber at2's on ebay. It's best putting in the fewest keywords as possible otherwise you'll not see the ones being miss-advertised

I wasn't telling her how to search on ebay, I was telling her what the tyres she needs to look for are called.

Thats sounds expensive at £82.50 a corner i got four fitted and balanced for £76.00 a corner and i claimed the VAT back at that price too :partyman:

Hmm...to help Momos and other rookies...do what I did ....go n talk as I said to a local clued in tyre depot and see what they offer  they are much better long term than a cheap ebay deal...

Contrary to what some imply google does not fit tyres as well

am I under the wrong impression larger tyres are harder to balance, and so cost alot more to fit.....3 times as much...? :-?
Title: Re: KJ Tyres/wheels

Hmmmm interesting question......
Title: Re: KJ Tyres/wheels
Post by: Panic mechanic! on April 28, 2009, 10:11:56 PM
actually, the larger the tyre the easier it is to fit, it can be harder to balance 4wd tyres tho cos of the large amount of rubber they use for tread depth.
Title: Re: KJ Tyres/wheels
Post by: Bishops Finger on April 28, 2009, 11:24:12 PM
Got that but if ya know does it really cost more to fit than say a Jag/Audi BMW tyre.....?

I'd say the taller the sidewall the easier to fit, by a long long way. Little skinny low profile tyres on 20" rims are a mare.

44" tyres on a 15" rim, just show them the rim and they'll fall on
Title: Re: KJ Tyres/wheels
Post by: scrw on April 29, 2009, 11:59:19 AM
Bigger the sidewall the more flex in the bead, much easier to push over the rim. Some remoulds can be a mare due to stiff/thick sidewalls though
