Title: How to remove seat covers?
Post by: Jeeper Creeper on April 22, 2009, 11:52:16 AM
ATM I'm working on the front ones and I got the backrests off (had to cut off the zipper ends) but can't work out how to get the lower covers off. It looks like the whole backrest has to be removed completely to be able to take off the lower seat cover without cutting it. Is that so? And if yes, how do I remove that backrest?

Thank you

The same at the back - the backrest cover was painless to remove but the lower one won't come off without the backrest off. So need advice how to remove the back rest.

Cheers

EDIT: worked out how to get the back seat out and then the covers came off easily. Only the front ones left now.

No help there Tim  :-?  It just says it's easy...

Am I missing something obvious here?

I just can't see how those lower front seat covers can come off without being cut. It looks like the backrest was fitted after the covers and the only way for them to come off is if the backrest is removed. Yes? No? Maybe?

The information is on that page. You need to cut the hog rings. When refitting, you need new hog rings and hog ring pliers
(to fit then as from factory). Answer also here http://www.fixya.com/cars/t1870049-remo ... p_wrangler (http://www.fixya.com/cars/t1870049-removing_seat_covers_2000_jeep_wrangler" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;)
You may find it much easier to remove the seats first.

I think maybe my seats are different...

I added a pic to help solve this confusion.

If you look where the back support joint is the cover just goes all around it which makes it impossible to remove.

You need to remove the seats and separate the two halves. Very good write up at the following link. You don't need hog ring pliers. All you need is some small grips. I used two small sets of mole grips to open the rings and turn them to get them off. And turn them back in and close them up when done. The write up is on the seats for an 04 wrangler. The seats on my 97 are only slightly different where the two halves bolt together but the rest is the same. http://http://www.ewylie.com/jeep/seatheat.htm

It works now, website must have been down.

But I've remove the seats already. One snapped bolts on each side but I mended that with a crowbar. Just got to go buy new bolts. The two snapped bolt at the back will be harder to sort out but I'll leave that for later.

Removing the lower seat covers was a mission but got there in the end. Basically the entire floor pan cleaned, carpets and seat covers washed, moldly panels cleaned.

Good bye nasty smells!
