Title: 99 Cherokee Issue
Post by: brendjill on April 25, 2009, 03:17:31 PM
My XJ seems to have a mind of it's own: the internal fan/heater is playing up. No matter what position I have the fan (feet/dash/forward) it only blows out the dash but then after a while it will fix itself. Anyone had the same problem or know how I can fix it?

Thanks in advance

Could be a vacuum leak.Have a look for the vacuum tank behind the front bumpre first and see if it's damaged or disconnected.

Hi Mate

I had my mechanic look at the Jeep today and he is confident that there is vacuum in the engine bay components (he didn't check the part you mentioned as it's pretty well covered). He pulled the dash off and says there is no vacuum to the smaller vacuum pipes (which he trased through the bulkhead). Any more ideas ??

I have a 2000 XJ with exactly the same prob.
checked relay .. resevoir and heater control switches..all ok
found disconnected vacuum at manifold .. reinstated but still no vacuum to actuators on heater unit.
Vacuum is getting to the speed control unit under bonnet , so seems that connection under bonnet is ok .

waiitn in anicipation for a revolution here.

Hi Brendjill
did you get your heater fixed?
Found a disconnected vacuum pipe hidden under some wiring just by the heater pipes in engine bay.. works fine now reconnected.. even the cruise control works now.
Hope you got it sorted
