Last week I cleaned all water out of the foot wells and dried the carpets before refitting them and today I found that the drivers footwell has some water in it and I don't think it's condensation. The car has not been driven and there was strong rain yesterday so I'm assuming it won't be from the bottom but somewhere from the top.
Any known leaks I should look for?
Cheers

I experience the same problem, but mine is a cherokee.
It looks as if rain water is coming down my "A" pillar.

I had water coming into drivers foorwell on my xj
It was the seam at the top of the wing
unbolted wing re seam sealed now no probs
-
Took half the dash apart and couldn't find any signs of leakage so decided to hose it down and there is plenty of water coming through drivers door seal. The seal isn't damaged so I'm a bit puzzles why so much water is getting through.
New seal needed or will it make no difference?
Cheers
-
replace it, i did one on my 97
got it from 4wd, you have to drill a few new holes but you get a sexy template to help
-
I not likes drilling holes in my Jeep
Can it not be avoided?
-
to be fair its better than the original seal
dont be worried about drilling holes, as you mod it your going to be doing lots of that
-
I take it for the drivers door I should buy for a passengers door?
-
yep, that was the one i replaced too, gets more use i spose

Is it better because it's Omix (that's what 4WD sells) or because they are with grommets?
If I understand it correctly all TJs from 1999 had grommet style door seals which I'm assuming can be obtained from Lighthouse. But if Omix are better then I have to get them shipped from 4WD.
-
i think the one from 4wd was an omix, it has grommets that fit into holes so not relying on the fixing into the rail as original fitment.
It is a much better idea, as mine had stretched and was always popping out. As mentioned the template made drilling the holes easy.
Why not phone lighthouse and see what they offer, they may have a similar conversion
-
They only have originals and then while looking through some catalogue he found a template kit but they never ordered it.
Which parts of the door did you have to drill? Just wanna see if that's where mine is letting in water.
-
a new original style one will be ok, it has lasted 12 years :-D
-
I'll get a set from Lighthouse, less hassle and hopefully they'll be all right.
-
A set of door seals was delivered from Lighthouse yesterday. They had grommets (I call them clips), so the railing at the bottom of the door had to go and I drilled holes all around the bottom half of the door for the clips. The seal fitted nicely and I was pleased with myself until I fitted the door back to the Jeep and attempted to close it. The seal was getting caught between the door and hardtop and I had to cut off a big chuck to be able to close it.
Apparently nobody had problems with them before... not impressed tbh.

mmmm, looks like you will be calling 4wd after all
thats nasty, you should have sent it back tbh before cutting
-
this may sound stupid but that seal looks wrong,it looks likes the wrong side has been fitted to the door?

I thought so too but I just don't see how it could fit the other side
I'll send the other seal back and if this one can keep the rain out I'll leave it like that if not it's 4WD.
-
where are you in this fine country?
-
West Sussex, I'm on the member map
-
shame you weren't closer to the midlands, otherwise you could have brought it round and we could spend a day working it all out lol
-
Don't know if later TJs have different doors or hardtops but if not then it's either a badly designed or badly made seal.
-
looking at the pic , it looks like the profile of the seal is wrong, from what I can see a normall tj seal is a balloon seal with a flat edge on one side kinda like this in profile OI and your seal has an outer edge lip, which seems completely wrong.
-
doors are over rated anyway
-
yup slow you down getting to the kebab shop but they keep it dry when its raining
-
The old seal has the lip too, it goes around the glass area of the door. But is facing out not in. The new seal also has a second lip at the front side of the glass area - one facing in and one out like O<. I guess it's an "improved" seal or something...
-
I can’t really contribute too much to this other than here are some photos of my standard trim which seems to fit fine. I hope they help!

My old one looked more or less like the one in PtP's pics.
Has anyone seen something like that:

They are made by Crown and replace parts # 5017462AF and 5017463AF
Can anyone verify those numbers are correct for my TJ?
-
those are the numbers that crown have in their catalogue
http://www.crownautomotive.net/catalog/body/TJ.html (http://www.crownautomotive.net/catalog/body/TJ.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;)
but that seal just looks completely wrong, it might be worth emailing them and double checking.
-
 isnt that a sign of witchcraft or summink
-
All the bits and pieces I’ve had from Lighthouse branded Crown have been spot on, but I’ve never ordered door seals.
It looks like you have some sort of upgraded part for providing a tighter fit, but they obviously aren’t working properly for your TJ. I assume that all TJs from ’97 – ’06 have the same seals, so I don’t understand why yours aren’t fitting properly.
-
I'm confused myself, nobody else apparently had any problems...
I'm gonna ask people on the other side of the pond what they think.
