xj pulling under braking
« on: July 24, 2009, 05:41:18 PM »

this is weired....

changed disc and pads on my cherokee and after a road trial it pulled badly to the left. was fine before and even pad wear. after checking the brakes out the off side was locked solid including the piston. so I have changed the caliper and it then pulled to the right.. so changed the other....

it now pulls to the right still, with new pads, discs and calipers... and was perfectly fine before...

any ideas???

change the seals and pistons as one might be sticking. they are only £15 a side for a rebuild kit from lighthouse. once cooked the piston tends to warp slightly and sticks

Look for notches worn into the steering knuckles where the pads slide on them. The pads stick in these quite often when you replace them. If they're shallow, file the slide flush, if they're deep, weld them and grind flat.
