Prins LPG Conversion

Having had a single point LPG set up on my last Jeep I am going for multipoint this time .... the Prins seems to be a nice bit of kit although at £2.6k it should be! .. anyone got any experience with this make of conversion?

Got a single point system on the XJ.  I think that's the same with most of the Birty's runnin' LPG.

What truck ya got??  It must be somethin' fairly new for you to be thinkin' of spendin' that kind o' money. :lol:

I had this system fitted to my xj in march,runs very well,no different to running on petrol except for fatter wallet! :D Can't even tell when it switches fuel.

I was thinking (hoping!) to spend a whole lot less... was always happy the way my old xj ran on single point but was a bit unerved when the air box cover blew off! .. the more knowledgeable ones tell me this can happen with single point, sometimes accompanied by a fire! .. ooerrr! .. hence my interest in multipoint this time

Its a 4 year old Orvis xj,  difficult to justify spending that kind of spondooli but  "justify" and "Jeep" dont often appear in the same sentence!  :wink:

The grand plan is to keep this one for a few years so, hopefully, the cost will be recouped - unless Mr.Chancellor does the dirty and hikes up the duty on gas, but I prefer not to think about that!  :?

I'm sure hes nice to old ladies and fluffy dogs .. but whether he views drivers of hunking great gas guzzling 4wd beasts with the same benevolence remains to be seen.  Besides, he may be in Tony's seat very soon and we may end up with a fully paid up member of the Ramblers in No.11.  Shudder

How much you pay for yours Bobbin? .. I just got a slightly better quote direct from Prins for 2K + the dreaded with free use of a hire car for the duration of fitting thrown in.   This is with an underfloor tank which they assure me wont result in the loss of any ground clearance ...hmmm .. is that a herd of pigs I see getting ready for take off?  :roll:

Mine cost 2.4k :shock:   via Greenfuel, fitted by midland lpg at Heanor, derbys. Its got the underslung lpg/petrol in place of the orig. tank and it is a lot lower, tho' it came fitted with a 1/4 inch skid plate.Had to fit a budget boost on rear springs to restore ride height,but rear was sagging anyway!  :?

Aha .. Greenfuel were the ones to quote me originally,  apart from the cost the problem was that their nearest approved installer was miles away .. up in England no less! .. begad! .. I felt faint just thinking of it!

On the subject of tanks .. I had always assumed that dual fuel vehicles with an underslung tank was just that, one tank partitioned off to accomadate the two differing fuels . . doh! ...  but I was told by the technical bod who I spoke to today that they fit two tanks, a smaller petrol tank and a seperate gas tank ... is this the configuration you have?

As far as sagging rear springs go I wonder how many stock XJs havent got them unless renewed recently ... this one was sitting at least an inch lower it should have been and as I tow a horse box plus have a 90lb Lab sat in the back most of the time I figured I better fit new ones before sticking a LPG tank under there

Yup thats the one,70l gas and 35l(I think) petrol.If you run out of gas,which I've done once, its pppretty scary watching the fuel gauge go down. :jawdrop:  The BB I got from mountainjacks about £99 for front pucks and rear helper leaf. Didn't fit the pucks 'cos the helper levelled it up nicely, even with three airedales in the boot. :smt110

Nige,

We had the AG multipoint system fitted by Greenfuel in Bath around 4 months ago. Similar to the Prins system with the obvious difference that it uses individual injectors fitted into each tract of your original inlet manifold, unlike the Prins which has an independent bank injecting into the original jet. Cost was close to £2.5k with the underbody 70 lire LPG tank and a 35 litre petrol tank - as all the other installers seem to use.

Despite what they all say (heard from 3 installers) you will loose about 1-1/5" of clearance with good std springs. More if they are sha**ed. We fitted ProComp uprated rears to get the height back plus about an 1" more than std.

Running very well and recently seems to be evn better after around 3k miles since the conversion. We had a few teething troubles initially but they sorted it out promptly. :)
