Hello all,

I've posted some questions in the intro forum, but gather that here may be a better place to ask them so here goes..

I've just bought a 98 Cherokee 4.0 - the car is great, but there's a few things I want to fix:

The car has currently done 97k miles - is there anything particular, maintenance-wise that should have been done by this mileage?  I'm thinking belts or similar?

The tailgate is stuck shut - is this a known issue/easy fix?

I'm going to do an oil change this weekend - is there anything else I should tackle at the same time?

My front speakers are blown.. what's the recommended route for upgrading?

the engine itself is very strong and reliable, mine has complete 160k with just regular oil and filter changes

might check the serpentine belt at the front of the engine for splits and cracks.

check the various liquids as you would on a normal vehicle.

stuck boot...the lock is only realy accesible when the boot is open, cant remember if you can get at it with the boot trim removed.

blown front speakers just replace for ones of the same size.

You can get at the boot lock when inner panel is removed - though a bit of pushing and pulling on the boot while trying the handle may get it to work - but when open sort the handle - it is adjustable when you remove the inner

Otherwise undo what you can get to and then force the bottom of the ineer panel off from the inside

Cheers chaps.  I'll give the boot a go at the weekend.

Anyone have any experience with the windscreen washers?  I suspect it may be the pump that's gone as when I try to switch them on, nothing happens - not even a noise from the pump so I think it might be away.

I had an issue with mine too.

From memory, the washer bottle is on the passenger side of the engine bay. To access the pumps (both front & back) you need to get at the washer bottle from inside the wheel arch. You dont need to remove the washer bottle.

Remove the front wheel & remove the inner liner. These are only held in by plastic trim clips, they are tapered like Christmas trees.

When you can get at the washer bottle, you will see both the front & rear pumps, they are just a push fit. I would remove & clean both out as washer fluid can emulsify & bung up the in built filters.

Wash your washer bottle out thoroughly while its all apart & after cleaning out the pumps, re fit & try with just water.

Failing that, they are knackered but at least you know how to change em
