Hi Birty's
Bit of advice please
02  Grand Cherokee 2.7
Has pull in steering to left.
Tyres checked and wheels swapped - no change
4 wheel alignment carried out - no change
Note
Steering wheel is not centre, was not before wheel alignment and is the same after.
I was expecting it to be set dead centre and the wheels adjusted.
Am I wrong
I have to maintain a few degrees right turn to go straight ahead.
Would/ could the position of the steering box cause the pull
Has the steering box got a centre that it will return to   ( therefore it will want to return to what is straight ahead for it but not necessarily straight ahead for the road wheels)
If the steering is let go it centres itself quickly but obviously the car would drive round a very large circle.
Could the power steering be trying to centre itself, is that possible
Any one had this before

Hi, got a sistership to yours. Couldn't possibly comment on the tekkie bits. (cult of the Bulldog ya know.... )

I'll check but don't think I've got these symptoms.

Had the same issue, 3 high street tyre places say its in spec etc etc Took it to a mates to check myself with him (should have done this first) and it was miles out, find a GOOD 4x4 tyre fitters, not the quik-fit lot

But then they had an alinement tool called Rob or was that short for Robin

They are very sensitive to road camber. Find somewhere safe where you can drive up the middle of the road, ignore the fact that the steering wheel is wonky let go and see if it drives in a straight line.

Done that, yep, its no as bad on the wrong side of the road (others ain't so happy to see me there)
But its still there.
On reverse camber she drives straight, theres defiantly more pull to the left that the camber of the road causes.
Done this on a stretch of road that slopes all 1 way.
1 way has definite pull, the other way is perfectly straight, don't matter right or wrong side of the road, still the same.
Is there any way to turn the wheels slightly without upsetting the tracking
Sort of a wee 1/4 turn each time till it runs straight.

Do you have a bearing rumble? Have you experienced the death wobble?

probably not relevant to newer models like yours but had the tracking done on the little CJ (my usuale place was fully booked so went to a tyre center around the corner from me) and while all the settings I had were in degrees, the equipment was in millimeters, took quite a bit of explaining that they were different and only when the boss got involved did we work out the real settings (3-3.5mm)

point is the fitter may not have understood what he was looking at

yep, they chucked all that on mine & said it was fine, despite chewing up a tyre edge, got it properly set with the steering box in the centre and both sides adjusted up, all okay now, really, quik-fit are crap

I pulled of the four calipers and lubed the pins.
Both fronts were a tad tight before the lube but at least the brakes ain't dragging now

I know she has a tendency to tramtrack at speed depending on the road surface.

death wobble, steering wobble that builds up over speed or after you hit a pothole, on a standard vehicle it points to worn steering, suspension or axle joints

Robin B hooked 4 thingies on me tyres and slackened a few things.
Turned a couple of thingies with a Stilton thingy till the laser thingies lined up

Yep, I suppose the letters J E E P on the front might have been a bit more informative to him
The fact that a thingy with 4 legs, a mane & a tail was not pulling it should have given the game away.

He was using the wrong kind of cheese. Cheddar is preferred for steering.

Grand Cherokees do suffer from this quite a lot, usually from new. Just because the toe (tracking) is correct, it doesn't mean everything is set up right. Caster and camber settings can also cause excessive drift. They're a bugger to sort out and most people just put up with it. After all everyone agrees that the polluter must pay so
If you build it and take the money for it and it goes wonky within its designed lifespan then you fix it.
You built it to last x years, you took the money on the understanding that it would last x years so it must last that time.
A car that pulls to the left and the manufacturer knows that pulls to the side is ahem not right.

There is allready this in place, its called shoppers rights and fit for its purpose.
The UK guarantee offered is in addition to your rights.
A 1 year guarantee does not mean that the seller can wash their hands of responsibility after a year.
A product has an expected life or a intended working life.
When you buy a product it must be of Satisfactory quality
'Satisfactory quality'refers to both minor defects like scratches and larger problems like broken parts. It also covers the durability of any product i.e. how long you might reasonably expect something to last.
Quite simply at present its who has the most money fights longest (wins)
Vote for me and I would make sellers state openly how long a product will last (vehicles with correct servicing ect)
Do you like paying for something and not getting it, product or a service. If your paying for a liter of petrol and only getting 900mils you would soon buy elseware, well wouldent you.

Steering arm, bar connected to it, has joint on end, is this the drag link
If so, do what if i do that will it upset the track

My 96 GC does this a bit and others that I have driven also do it. I did know it was a known thing with RHD don't know about LHD tho?

Other day I tried an experiment across the fens.... Drove on the right hand side of the road....... End of problem....... doesn't pull.

So now have real reason to go live in France

C'mon, I would need more than that to live in  France 

OK then
Ill adjust the drag link to centre the steering wheel and see wot happens.
Then Ill take it to a garage that can tell me the factory settings cus if they don't allready know then there ain't much chance of them guessing them.

If that don't work Ill curb the right wheel a few times till I get the castor angle set just right
