front springs ???
« on: May 09, 2010, 03:55:05 PM »

4ltr cherokee ltd petrol

about a year ago i changed the rear leaf springs
as the off side was sitting very low
on one side(about 3" low!!!)

new springs fitted
and the car still sat about an inch low
i swapped the springs over (left to right)
and the off side still was sitting about an inch lower
i have lived with it for about a year

now the car sits about 2inches low on the off side front
the back is still about an inch

i am thinking that the front off side coil is giving up
when i put the caravan on the back it drops equally(the back end that is)
and if i put a brick under the front off side wheel
the car seems to sit better

am thinking correctly
that the front spring is knackered
or do i have other issues

Rear off side has always sat low on my XJ - and I've had 4 sets of springs fitted (front and rear) and it's always sat with a lean. I fixed it by adding a leaf (or was it 2??) to that leaf pack.

the fact the front is lower than the rear
i was just presuming the front corner was "pulling "the rear down

1) Did you tighten up the bolts holding the shackle to the frame, and bolts holding the shackles to the springs whilst the car was still on jackstands?
2) Are all the springs seated correctly, centres lined up with the locating pin on the axle?
3) Is your axle bent?
4) Is your Frame bent?  :017: Park on a level surface and measure your corners.

Maybe this will help?

Fairly common, especially on Mk1s. I had one that did it, and it had a brand new 4.5"
lift. If it bothers you, do what James suggested.

I have a spare pair of standard front coils off my TJ in the garage if you want them. They were only removed to fit some +2" OME ones.
