Just looking now, quick question is the windscreen bonded on and the rubber trim just to fill the gap as I have a leak started down the drivers side and was thinking of pulling of the rubber and sealing all round with a silicone based product.

If its an XJ then yes they are just bonded in & the weather strips are just to finish it off.

Had to have a new screen on mine & had to have it re-fitted twice due to leakage & lack of sufficient bonding bu a muppet at auto-glass. When I took it back the 2nd time, strangely he didn't work there anymore  :icon_rolleyes:

If you have a low windscreen excess on your insurance, it might prove easier to get it replaced if you were to find a crack in it in the near future  :icon_winkle:

Had thought about it but £85 I don't have right now, I also have an old VW camper air cooled that I am fitting dellorto twin carbs to at the mo and they just set me back £360 and still need manifolds and linkage + plus a couple of hours on a rolling road for final set up looking at around another £400 - £500 to get it all done.

Remember that bonded screens become part of the monocoque and as such are sort of load bearing.
They also stop cats, dogs, sheep, cows, horses etc entering the cab and/or you flying out over the hood in the event of a head on collision.

For safety sake I'd get a new screen fitted - but it's your life and your money.

Sorry, thats only my opinion, I'll get off me soap box now!

If you do have a new screen fitted by Autoglass, make sure they fit the the correct type, we have just taken tina's beetle for its MOT( its passed thanks Tank) and discovered the replacement windscreen doesn't have a window in to allow the Vin number to be seen, not sure If I have a recourse to get them to replace it tho ?

When I had a new one fitted on the Z4, it was just under 2 years old & I insisted that they fir a proper BMW item, fancy graduated tint & the like, similar to XJ IIRC.
They said that was no problem up to three years old but after that, the insurance company would not gaurantee to fit OE parts due to cost.

Had the same problem with my fan blower resistor, Just took mine apart found it was a small rivet holding one of the connections that was loose, stripped the resistor down and squeezed the rivet with a pair of pliers. Job done :icon_biggrin:, be careful taking it apart some bits might shoot off in all directions. Errr not that it happened to me of course :banghead:
