LSD not standard on Cherokee pre facelift 4.0?
« on: October 23, 2010, 07:44:45 PM »

I'm on my third Cherokee that doesn't have a slipper, I thought they all had them as standard on the earlier Cherokee's? No slipper on my 1993 and two 1996... the 1994 and 1995 Cherokee's I had did have them. All 4.0 Limted/Limted SE.

Or is it just a case of the slipper has been junked at some point?

Cheers Maf

Easiest way to spot LSD on facelift xj is if you got a space saver tire no LSD. Full size and you got one. Dunno why though.

Jeep UK originally specified LSDs in all XJs. They deleted it from '96 on the 4.0. All the 4 pots had it.

My other 97 facelift 4.0 had one but current one does not. Pity really.

I understood it that all pre-facelift 4.0's had LSD and facelift 4.0 models didn't. All diesels had them and Orvis and Anniversary facelifts had LSD too. Not sure about the 2.5 petrol but would rely on Mike's info that all 4 poppers had them (not sure about my dad's 2000 reg 2.5 with Chrysler rear end but I've never really checked).

For the uninformed, how would I check to see on mine?  Its a 96 Limited SE and seems to fall on both sides of your discussions so curious.

 :imwitstupid:

With the handbrake off and transfercase in neutral (make sure Jeep is secured and won't roll away) - sorry if that seems patronising, just wanted to cover all bases  :icon_winkle:

Thanks for tips.

I'll have a go.

Lifting it up to fit an exhaust today, so I'll spin a wheel as well.
