Accident damage repair
« on: December 03, 2010, 01:55:41 PM »

I was T-boned the other night in my WJ by a car coming from a side road; unfortunate fella's foot slipped off the clutch & his mondeo sprang into the nearside rear of my WJ. Non fault accident on my part.
Strangely enough given the impact not much damage; see pic.
Rear plastic has gone, door plastic has popped off door.
But it has bent the metal a bit under the wheel arch moulding.
It seems the wheel & maybe the rail took the brunt of the blow.
The wheel is scratched up & still has mondeo bumper in it.

Mondeo faired quite badly!

I took it to a local repair shop and got a verbal of min £350, max £1200 if the door is damaged & wheel has to be replaced.

I've already said to the guy he can pay for the repair instead of involving insurers, someone let me off a ding years back & I'm inclined to repay the gesture.

Trouble is if it starts out at 350 & then raises could be a problem.

If the insurers repair it they will take it to Just Car Clinic, in Lye. Are they upto it?

Advice anyone?
Wouldn't be so bad but my WJ is fairly immaculate!

As it certainly wasnt your fault then get his insurance to sort it all out,but then again you need to be careful as even thoufgh it wasnt your fault,if you have any repairs done by an insurance claim you could end up paying more yourself even though it wasnt your fault.Happened to my sister, someone hit her rear end and the car was repaired through the others insurers but then when she came to re-new her insurance it had gone up because of the claim even though it wasnt her fault.Insurance is a big con really and i can see why people dont bother, although i certainly dont condone it.They shaft you if you claim, shaft you if you dont

what happened to her is application of the  knock for knock clause, both cars were fully comp so each repairs their own customers car that way they both get to up the premium next time for both parties.dodgy way to do business and part of the lies they use to get money back from a lot of people  unaware of how they do it.
Is car clinic the one just round the corner from the main lights in lye? If it is I know they do a good job, If the guy is paying cash get them to give you a quote for cash in hand work if not going thru the insurance there can be quite a difference.

Cheers for the quick replies! As is always the case at Birtys.

Tank; exactly the issue I wish to avoid; taken me 9 years to build up a good history.
Panic, yep think that must be it. The price I got from a local shop was cash at a great £25/hr.

Seems the decision is made for me just: As the guys insurers have called me & will take over as fault has been admitted.
So I'm OK for them to sort it; they'll use Impact in Bromsgrove.
He wasn't a young kid so I guess loosing ncb wasn't too much of an issue & preferential to handing over £350
