Duff coil on a 93 XJ, does it give a fault code??

Troubleshooting a non starting 4l, its not the CPS, getting no fault codes, cranking fine but won't start. Have chacked the coil yet but if they do fail will they give an engine fault code?

It might if the primary (low tension) side fails. Unplug it and see if it sets a code. They seldom fail on Jeeps.

Okay, If we have the ignition on and earth the low tension side we get no spark. Off to get one from a scrappy to swap out & see, must say it would be the first time I have seen one fail on a jeep.

Coil packs used on new jeeps will cause codes but not the good old fashioned coils. Measure the resistance between the LT contacts which should be 0.95-1.2 ohms. Measuring between the LT and HT should give in the region of 11,300-15,300 ohms.
