GRAND CHEROKEE NOT STARTING
« on: March 01, 2011, 10:10:22 AM »

looking for some help with my non-starting Grand Cherokee 2.7 ltd 2002 model. On starting the engine ran for about 20secs then cut out and has refused to start since. Turn over of the engine is strong so would appear to be a lack of fuel reaching the engine. On a couple of occasions previously the engine has stalled after starting and running for 20secs, but has always restarted after a couple of minutes. Any ideas or clues as to were to start greatly appreciated.

Hello M8,

Welcome to Birties.

Do a search on 't forum  (tech section).  Have been a number of discussions on here relating to the 2.7 GC CRD
re fuel pump issues, worn through wiring on ECU's and the like.

Thanks for the welcome will start a search of start faults, but one more question can I get the fault codes up without diagnostic aids? Thanks again in advance.

Turn your ignition key on-off-on-off for 5 times in quick succession.  The codes should then appear in the digital mileage readout.   You might have to try this a couple of times (at least I did :icon_winkle:)

Have pen and paper ready because they scroll through quite quickly.

For explanantion of the codes goto :  www.wjjeeps.com

Hi guys still no start, have done the diagnostic code check and have the infamous P0702 code up only, does anybody know if this code alone will stop the jeep from starting alltogether?

No, it's just the Pcm telling you the transmission control module has detected a fault.

Hi guys, for those of you still intrested in my non starting Grand Cherokee 2.7 well it goes like this, friend with snap-on obd2 reader came round to check out fault codes but no joy it wan't able to read the Jeep codes nor neither did trying to tell it it was a Mercedes seemed to work so the electronic side of things was abandoned. Next squirted some easy start type stuff into the intake and hey presto instant start and has done since. Moral of the story carry a screwdriver and a can of easy start? Thanks all for your help.

Reminds me of my days as a motorcycle courier...borrowed a pair of those leather throw over saddle bags from a friend , didn,t realise they hung a bit lower than mine , in fact were a wee bit too close to the exhaust pipes of my motorcycle....

Off i went down the motorway , at the usual pace of us carefull bike couriers , halfway down the M1 , the can of easy start in one of the panniers got a bit warm on the exhaust , and the resulting explosion was impressive to say the least....

The saddle bags did not survive the explosion....
