Run away. It's an XJ diesel with an extra cylinder to go wrong. The gearbox is a 44RE

Yeah that's what I thought about the 3.1 motor, but I'm sure people on here have said they are better?

2.7 Merc CRD unit ok though?

Trying to source a GC diesel for a friend, can't stand Diesel myself....

What sort of power output/fuel consumption does the VM 3.1 offer (before it self destructs)?

When it hasn't broken down it produces 138bhp and 283 imperial torques.

I googled  a road test or two

283 ft/lb torque sounds impressive, 138bhp less so.

Average fuel cons only 24, not worth the hassle over a petrol unless ya doing loads short journeys I think.

And slated for being noisy when pushed hard, like an old tractor :icon_eek:

A XJ 4.0 with sequential LPG is still gonna make more than 138bhp, the engines have proved tough, durable, and can take LPG long term.

Cheap to replace too, 'cos the 4.0 seems to outlive the Jeep
