For the Birty bikers - Yam 250 rear tyre question
« on: March 13, 2011, 05:43:58 PM »

Yam 250 MOT coming up but rear tyre needs changing.

Aquired a new Avon Gripster 21" front tyre from Ebay 1 year ago and the seller threw in a rear for free :

On it now : Bridgestone 4.00-18  knobbly jobby.

Got : Avon Gripster 120-80-18 with full deep tread slightly more roady tyre.  (I use it as dd on road only so good)

Will this fit ?

Thx.

There are basically two sizing systems currently in use, inches and metric.
A 120/80-18 tire is 120 mm wide and its sidewall height is 80% of that width, or 96 mm. A 4.00-18 inch tire is roughly the same as a 100/100-18 metric. A 4.00 tire is 4.00 inches wide from sidewall to sidewall, with a 4.00 inch sidewall height.

so both have approx the same profile but the 120 is almost an inch wider

bikers who passed their tests a good few years ago and have not owned a bike for a fair while, they usually go out and having  rode an old 750 , go and buy a new one and end up in an accident cos its a lot faster. Its a term I heard in the local hospitalsbeing used by the dr's along with the donor tag.

Yep, born again Bikers or as the staff call them at work - Organ Donors.

My old man is one of these said people, had an old 600 back in the mid 80's, nothing for 22yrs then got a GSXR600 and a Bandit SV1250 brand new last year.

Mother upped his life insurance and has chosen her next car lol.

Of course some of us are not born again bikers , some of us never took a break from biking , and just kept on doing it...

I started riding seriously when i was 12 years old , i am now 56 , and still no wiser , although i have slowed down a bit and bought a Harley rather than the sports bikes i normally thrashed about on....

Some people are bikers...and some are not...those that are not will never understand...

I got to admit I like anything with wheels, and an engine, I had a bike given to me  ( honda cg125) so that I could pass my test on it a few years ago, got to admit I did enjoy the riding part of it but what I wasn't keen on was the fact that I could only do 50mph on it and the 10 mins it takes to get ready to ride it and the 10, mins it took to get it out of the back garden so the actual riding experience was a good one.
Ended up selling it as it was far easier to just go outside and jump in the smart car ad it was a lot easier.
