yj harsh ride :(
«
on:
April 11, 2011, 12:39:51 PM »
My yj give a pretty harsh ride, feels every bump and bumps along even on the flattest of road. Its enough to give you a headache after a while
.
The shackles arn't over tightened and i have also replaced the shocks with the softest option i could fined.
any ideas would be welcome, im even thinking of getting one of those tj's with the round lights ;(

you need to get it off road so it flexes a bit and loosens up as the leaves in the springs start to rust and stick together.

i think they are procomp. both front and rear have had a leaf removed and the clamps opened to try and soften it up a bit. I spray them with wd40 quite a bit.

Procomp springs = v hard...........
Had some 2.5 on a mates YJ many moons ago ..........
Take the bottom leaf out of each spring
Hammer the spring clamps open so they are open at the top for the leaves to flex
and if you can afford it use MX6 adjustable Procomp shocks they come in 2 choices of soft and med..... go for soft and run at softest setting.
Got my mates to be as soft as my then RE2.5" lift springs.
We also both threw our track bars away front and back and never run the front anti roll bar...........
Never be as marshmallow as a TJ but leaves be far simpler

Surely replacing the springs is going to give better all round result, why throw money at expensive shocks when you'll end up with soft shocks but stiff springs?
I used to run skyjacker which were great, then switched to 4wd.com own brand spring which were cheap and gave a reasonable ride

Just realized.........................
You bought the springs from .......................me.................... that's why the last leaf is removed and the spring clamps are opened.......
I do remember and its on your avatar thingy............you have got a 4 pot wrangler.and no heavy junk that some of us have..............this will make a difference..............a lot to be precise. (nice paint by the way....I seem to remember)
To precis from JP mag ...again.... They put 2.5" lift on a 4 pot (rubicon express springs) and got 3.5 at front and a spit off 4 at the back.
Super soft shockers will make a difference tho................ I only put them on the front of mine and with RE 4'5 springs could really tell the difference.
Also boomerang shackles might help..... supposed to relax the spring without giving stupid angles of an extended straight shackle...

Hi wildwood, yep that was me
i had to put the short leaf back in the rear because they sagged.
i thought boomerang shackles were more of a clearance thing as there is still a straight line between the holes, maybe, i think??
up to 33!!! are you trying to kill me
just replaced all the shackle nuts with nylocks and done them up so i can still turn the bolts.
I have a short drive home, so i will see what this does.

mmm not sure, but if i jump up and down on the bumper there seems to be more movement.
i need to go for a decent drive.
the weight could be an issue, 4banger, no back seats, hardtop off next week for summer.
i keep it light or it wont move
