Picking my Jeep up this afternoon from it LPS conversion and new million dollar alternator  :banghead:

SO took the monther inlaws WJ CRD yesterday and today, nearly at work and noticed smoke from the bonnet so got it into work.

Looks like no.1 injector is leaking hense the evidence of smoke, and you can hear air escaping from there as the engine turns over.

Called mother in law, who called her AA and they said its only her covered, great so now stuck at work in Dudley. My breakdown is through my insurance so only on my car.

Does this sound like the injector seal has gone and can I drive it if I go easy to get to garage about 20mile away?

HELP.

Yes you can but be prepared for the black death  :icon_eek:

Black gunk will be jetted out of the leaking injector and soiling the immediate area.  You say no.1 ? the one at the front or the one at the back ? If its the one at the front you're lucky.

Also turn your vent off because your cabin will be filled with the sweet aroma of unburned fuel  :003:

Mine did not smoke as such but it was only fizzing.  Yours (mum in-law's) must have gone in a big way then.

The advice of my garage was that you cannot leave it too long because otherwise damage to the injector itself might occur.  I probably drove more that 20 miles before I noticed anyway.

Cheers Dutch,

I can cope with shitty black gunk, just need to get it home or to garage for them to sort it.

Its the front injector, the rear one was done before they brought it by the previous owner.

So I can drive it, just take it easy.

Don't know if driving easy will make any difference.  The mix is injected under ultra high pressure anyway whatever speed you're going.

As for seals beeing done ehm.... no guarantee. They can last 100.000 miles or 3.000. Had all 5 done March 2010 and nbr.1 went again early this year. Was dealt with under guarantee, garage was good about it but the black death is always lurking aroung the corner with the Merc lump  :003:

Good luck.

Ta Dutch,

Will leave work at lunch time in hope that my LPG conversion will be finished so I can drop this CRD off and collect mine at the same time.

Update later.

Think I know why its gone,

They ran out of Diesel last thurs (dodge gauge).

AA mechanic put fuel in then removed injector to check fuel was coming through, he must have disturbed the seal hence the issue now.

Aha.......yep, that must have foooked it.  When removing an injector you ALWAYS have to re-install with new stretch bolts.
