you would need to find a mixer plate that fits under the carb not sure they do them to fit 4 barrels.

I was warned off them "moving plate" mixer things wot are specially made for 4 barrel carbs.

Apparently one backfire and they are toast at £300 a time too.

is that's why the filter has a metal shroud round it to stop it exploding on backfire into the intake

it will work but it is a very poor design, the plenum chamber they use hold enough gas to cause a fairly big explosion( you will have the has held in the plenum and the manifold effectively)  if ignited by a back fire, when they do backfire they draw fuel out of the carb usually via the float bowl breather and spray it all over the air filter, which then catches fire and shortly after your pride and joy catches up with it.

had a few back fires myself when fiddling with in no fires cos i think due to not running gas and petrol at the same time mind you some carbs i think hollys can destroy them selves with a backfire they musta took some time to think about it the normal mixer ring has to sit on top the carb thers nowhere else for it but to flow the gas they constrict the carb and then it just wont breath on petrol

you will see a lot of the cheaper kits for carbs running a cheap welded  sheet steel plenum with a standard mixer ring mounted over the air intake, be the same as just poking a gas pipe down the inlet and turning on  the valve on the tank.
Its actually better to have the plate type that introduces the gas under the carb and a good one ( not seen one yet) will cause no problems with air delivery when running on petrol.

nope as they generally are the same diameter bore as the bottom of the carb so don't restrict the flow, I guess in many ways they operate like a spacer plate people use on later engine to improve fuel stand off.
the technology all changed when multi-point injection came along and the old type were dropped down to the issues of safety.
Not sure if I can find a pic but I will take a look for you.
