1999 WJ Double whammy
« on: June 18, 2011, 06:24:12 PM »

started the Jeep the other day to be greeted by a check engine light and aggressive gear changes.  Ran the fault codes and came up with P0523 and P0700.

as far as the 0523, am happy with fitting a new sensor as the wiring is fine.

with the 0700, I can't work out what gearbox I have fitted.  Automatic, that's obvious, but I can't get under the vehicle to check above the filter.

Can anyone give mee a steer in the right direction, and do I need to go direct to Jeep for the parts or are there suitable aftermarket ones?

Cheers

If you have a 4.0, it's a 42RE. If you have a 4.7, it's a 45RFE.

Cheers Mike, should have stated that it's a 4.7

You're barking up the wrong tree anyway. P0523 is an engine oil pressure sensor fault. P0700 alerts you that there is also a fault logged on the transmission control module, but you need a DRBIII scantool or something else that will do Chrysler transmission diagnostics to get into it further.

I'm happy that 0523 is the oil pressure sensor, that was the easy part to find out.  From what I can gather off http://www.wjjeeps.com/faultcodes.htm it could possibly be the output speed sensor.  Apparently the input sensor was changed a couple of weeks before I bought the car, so I am going to pull both of them and do a resistance check.
