Steel rims for Cherokee/Wrangler??? 8 spokes or modular
« on: August 16, 2011, 10:03:46 AM »

I'm not having a lot of luck finding these so hoping someone can help out.

Ideally I'm after a set of 16" either 16x7 or 16x8 steel rims to fit a pre face lift Cherokee XJ. I believe they have the same PCD as Wranglers and ZJ's.

5x144.3 with a 71.5 or 71.4 center bore.

What I wanted was something that looked like these:

Failing that I'm open to suggestions of other rims. However, I can buy 8 spokes for a Landy for £25-30 each new. So this is the sort of price range I'm thinking of. I don't mind new or 2nd hand though.

Cheers.

There's some modulars at a scrappy in dorchester, 7x15. He says he's looking at around the 120 mark.

there has been cherry to lardy adaptors on ebay recently, that may be an option if you have a cheap supply of land rover wheels and tyres

16x 8 steel rims are like hens teeth, the only chance you have is importing a set from the states, not even sure if jeep made a set of 16's in steel

landy adaptors might be the bset option

Why do you want 16x8's?

15" tyres are cheaper, or maybe look at KJ wheels (16") and spacers.

Found some on there, fuck me they are way over priced.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190353151970&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT#ht_1091wt_905

£273!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  :banghead:

Considering you can buy some regular Jeep spacers for £120, I fail to see how drilling 5 the holes in slightly different places is suddenly worth an extra £150 on top.

This place have some listed too: http://www.rakeway.co.uk/page34.html but no prices. Just emailed them, hopefully they'll come back with something that doesn't need mortgaging.

Are 15's really that much cheaper?  :017:

Anywho... the reason is a little convoluted.

While I love my Jeeps, I also love my Landy's and my Uncle is a huge Landy nut (has 5 of them). So I've got easy access to Land Rover wheels (should the spacers prove a sensible option).

But more importantly plenty of tyres I could have access too, but nearly all are 16"

To further this, I'd like to raise my Jeep up a bit as I got stuck 3 times in it at the weekend where my Disco never did. Running 33's is probably a step too far, but some 235/85R16's would do the trick nicely at just over 31" tall and it won't cost me anything to "borrow" a set from my Uncle.

There doesn't seem to be 15" equivalent size.

If I'm sticking with 15", then tbh I'd probably stick with my stock rims and just add some spacers. Hope that sort of makes sense.

:timmy: You'll really need a 3" lift for an XJ on 31s. A bit more would be best.

I just bought a XJ for spares and it has to be what looks like Ford Explorer wheels with 7.50x16's on them. So if you want 16's thats another option as there pretty cheap on the bay.

Lift will be going on at the same time, also don't mind trimming the arches. I used to run 34" tall Simex's on a stock ride height Disco, despite being told I couldn't  :icon_biggrin:

I'll have a look at the 30's, although aren't they normally 9.50 wide not 10.50? Really wanting a bit taller tyre though, hence the 235/85R16's, they come in at about 31.7" tall.

Thanks.

Had a look here: http://www.wheelfitment.eu/steekmaat.php?merk=Ford&merk2=Ford

Seems the center bore is about 8mm out. But solvable non the less. Cheers.

if only running 235 width tyre I would just get some KJ cherokee wheels, they are all 16", and if need be a set of spacers.

Got a price back from Rakeway for their adapters.

£240+VAT (and shipping I presume). So about £300.

 :headhack:

Am I missing something here????:017:

Why are they so pricey? Is it just profiteering?

Llama4x4 sell some straight up wheel spacers for £65/pair.

Surely an adapter is just a spacer with 5 out of the 10 holes drilled in a slightly different place to a spacer?

Economies of scale

and you'll need lift, bumpstop and trim for 235/85/16
