Exhaust Blowing At Joins.. Help
« on: August 04, 2011, 03:50:24 PM »

1992 Jeep Chrokee XJ 4.0i High Performance

Few months ago I replaced the backbox and cat for new ones (ebay), the cat is the type where the pipes slide into it and has clamp on each end.

Have noticed recently that where the front pipe and cat join it is blowing quite a bit from round the top join, and a little from the other side off cat(expected I guess from the amount blowin at front) as well.

Whats best / quickest way to resolve, ie more clamps, cut pipe at 12,6,3,9 if so how deep.

help pls

Is there any possibility of that getting into cat, was told not to use that stuff on pipes before cat, will damage cat if gets in

use the proper exhaust assembly paste but don't just bodge it in, take the joints apart and smear it around the end of the pipe but don't put to much on  and then slide it back together and start the engine and let it idle for a bit to set it.

Easy if you take it off........ which you may not want to do..........

but 1mm slitting disc as you say 12 3 6 and 9 o'clock for 40mm ish slide on then  clamp up and weld around top.....remove clamp and weld slits......  result gas tight and bullet proof.....and no clamps to get mullared.....

Did my new exhaust like this.......takes time and you got to get positionig right but it works.........
