`96 Grand Cherokee handbrake adjustment?
« on: October 22, 2011, 06:29:15 PM »

Ok, so after various work being done to prep the GC for its MOT, I need to adjust the handbrake.
Made a new adjuster today, fits and works well, but the handbrake only seems to stop the truck when in reverse not when going forward!
I understand there is an adjuster behind the rear discs? How do you adjust it? An info would be great!

there's an adjuster on each wheel bottom of the back plate.
There should be an oval rubber plug. pop it out and the adjuster is behind it.
Jack the back wheels off the ground (use Axle stands) and hand brake off wind up the adjuster using a flat blade screw driver so the wheel can not be turned by hand then wind it back till the wheel turns again.
the adjust the the centre hand brake adjuster  so the lever to the correct position

It's probably the best of the bunch
Got mine working for the MOT in September and it still works well  :icon_super: :icon_super:
So it can be done
The fact that it has rear disks and the only job for the  inner drum is hand brake

Ok, so the star adjuster is rusted to the bolt its attached to, which is a bummer! Disassembled all the shoes/gubbins and soaking the springs and adjuster in some oil to try and free it up. Will go back to it in a couple of hours
