Changing the rear pinion oils seal
« on: January 01, 2012, 09:42:09 AM »

Not to keen on messing about with the rear axle but I've noticed done oils coming out the rear seal. Is it a mission or fairly easy to do?

Remember the prop yoke bolts are "one use" as is the pinion nut.

And would the bolts come with the kit or would it be a trip to the stealer for them?

as its a shimmed pinion you are safe to just undo the nut slip the flange off change the seal and reverse fit everything with a new pinion nut

prop bolts are meant to be renewed but i have never done so on my own jeeps  so its up to you they aint dear

but i strongly recommend you drop the oil out and make sure its all ok as oil getting out can often mean crap can get in

 :iagree:

Have noticed their is a trend. To drill out the Yoke prop bolt holes, to suit clearance for 6mm.
Use M8.8 Rated bolt and Nylocs. I stated M8.8 because the local DIY store, may well have silver coated chinese chocolate deritives on offer :icon_rolleyes:
