can you tell me from where to where this measurement is taken.  I could check on my 7 if you want but
what you describe is not very clear.

Here to help, won't be able to check it though till Monday. I take it that your roof is a Bespoke (spelling prob wrong) one. If so I have the manual so I'll check that also, the other thing is you always have a little bit of adjustment on the bows

'68/'69 saw a change in windscreen frames. early ones had wipers at the top, later units with wipers at  the bottom.

may all be arbitrary as the frame should have a slide and lock for one section of the rear hoop, this should take out any slack

what condition is the cowl seal in? 1/4" thinner on the seal can be an inch difference at the top

If you have the correct windscreen then the wiper motor should be mounted on the outside of the windscreen at the bottom corner, later ones are mounted inside the windscreen.
You will also find when it comes to fitting the top that the warmer it is, the easier it is,so if you can park it somewhere warm i would. :greggmo:

your windscreen is correct for the year of your CJ then, mines a 1974 and has the same windscreen with an external wiper motor.

I would just fit the top with the windscreen clamped down on the cowl seal like it should be (i.e to stop water getting in) and ignore the instructions, because as soon as you try and fit the top there is so much leverage exerted on the windscreen it will end up where it wants to go anyway.

You will also find the top and especially the doors are not exactly a precision piece of engineering like Bestop make them out to be!  :icon_rolleyes:

I think like most soft tops of the era, they are as you say a "custom" fit, you attach it at the top of the screen then stretch it rearward to get a tight fit.

just found this on a cj web site
The major difference between the 1972-1975 and the 1976-1986 windshields is the earlier windshields stand straight up and down from the tub while the latter leans back. This effects the top fitment.
