Service schedule CJ7 - regular vs yearly maintenance
« on: April 21, 2012, 08:31:07 PM »

Would/could somebody write me a service schedule for idiots please.

Bit in limbo about diff/axle-oils-levels (need checking regularly?), locking hubs & bearings, filters, dismantle brakes fwd & aft etc...

Want to play as much as possible but also want to maintain in good condition and not miss anything.
So far kept an eye on engine oil due to crank seal leak, water/coolant & grease joints with grease gun.

Basically how often do I & when to make sure all the whirly bits keep on whirling.

Thanks.

I like to do the engine oil every 3 months when in use with a new filter at least once a year, I use cheap oil and an expensive filter (something with anti flow back like K&N)

Hi Dutch, this link to pdf service manual. http://www.civilianjeep.info/84-86FSM/CJ-FSM-84to86.pdf

Other than that, if it leaks, top it up, if you go in deep water, change it, (axle and maybe gearbox/transfer, but you can check them) if you go in deep mud, clean it, especially rear drum brakes, I could wear shoes out in a weekend!, keep greasing the props, there again, more if used in mud/water. I am sure there will be more comments!
