Hi all

Please forgive the "newbie" question.

My Cherokee appears to be lower at the back than the front.  In othe rowrds the roof line does'nt look parallel to the ground. My car cae with atowbat fitted and i have read a bit about weak springs.

Can you guys give me some thoughts on this, if I did need new springs can I get them?

All Cherrys sag at the rear at sometime or other but if it was used for towing alot it just speeds up the process.
Lots of options open to you, if you decide to lift it or keep it standard.

Thats exactly the look i'm after. Can you advise me where you sourced the springs and what sort of cost?

I guess this does'nt count as a 'modification' for insurance.

Hi Andy,

I think every Cherry owner goes through this at some stage, and as Bluesub has described there`s a couple of ways to go, with a straight forward leaf replacement being the way to go (if your not going down the full modding route)........OR!.......... you could at the same time fit a "Budget" lift, which consists of greasable, longer rear shackles and hard nylon spring spacers for the front, this gives you around 1 3/4 inches of lift, making larger tyre fitment easier!!!
From here on, its pucka lift kits, and fairly substantial amounts of Strongbow tokens......... :wink:

The 1 3/4" sounds easy, any downsides handling etc?, I guess this would count as a mod on insurance.

Is there a big price difference.

It is easy enough with a couple of ya, though if I ever did it again, I would make sure I had a spring compression tool!! (instead of just brute force `n ignorance) :supz: )
The budget kit costs about £140 ish if I remember right.

Have search through the posts on JeepClub Technical Forum you will find hundreds of posts on this subject.  I replaced the rear springs with Medium duty and a bit later fitted a budget boost.  Springs have sagged again

If you just replace the springs go for heavy duty as they will last longer.  You may need to add an 1" puck to the front coils to level the car with heavy duty springs on the rear.

when Carmel bought her xj it to was lower at the back. We whent to lighthouse and had a pair of diesel rear spings as these are heavy duty. The xj looks a lot better now

The springs came from PMD who have now ceased trading :?  but at the time I also got quotes  from EDM and Lighthouse whose prices were all similar I went with PMD because they were in stock Cost about £230 with the bushes and delivery. I had to fit spacers on the front to level the jeep off so yes this would be counted as a mod. :wink:
Mines about two inches of lift and is used as a daily driver with no probs.

4wd hardwere, cherry 3inch lift $450 ish that is £250 ish in english. dont think its worth messin about with anything else. my yj stuff is all 4wd and i have no reason to not recomend them to everyone else that wants mods. you would be daft to pay our fancy prices...
