I am looking in to fitting an 'X engineering' style disc brake on the back of the transfer case.
I have a caliper and can fabricate the mounts, I am looking for ideas on fitting a brake disc.
Choices I have at the moment are to get a flange fitted to the original output yoke to fit a disc to, or a disc made to somehow fit the yoke, OR;
Adapt 'Landrover' rear output style flange to the '300 and use an X-eng disc as I have a LR prop end flange which fits on the propshaft as they share the same UJ (I mean LR copied jeep UJ size along time ago)

mmmm indeedy, Wildwoods flipt 300 is sitting in my garage.... cogs are whirring, this would solve my issue of what to do with the handbrake ~~when~~ if I trayback the tJ....

Thought about that......but the stuff I looked at in the US was very spendy...........

And now with the Klune pushing it all back 6.5" and the yoke of the cv driveshaft is 1/2 inch from floor there would be no room....... not sure you would have room unless you get seriously jiggy with the disc cutter.... check first

No no ......... just do it and cut cut cut........

Also what about a hydraulic handbrake....... mine was pants on the D44 rear drums but is monster on the 1 ton rear discs. Will hold on any slope........ just a thought

Yup, got a brake solenoid to go in at some point, might wire a buzzer through it aswell

Got a bit further, time included full trans re-build and new TC, sadly painted everything to make it shiny!

looks good, loads of space too, I have decided to fit my line lock now, and its gonna be wired up through the hanbrake dash light, so when the dash light switch makes, the line lock is activated on the rear calipers, similar problem, different solution!

Willo...... we did some line locks on 'Double Js rig 18months ago........ they were real simple....... like an on/off tap....no electrickery or solenoid........ just put foot on brake and turn tap.......and back brakes locked.

If you got real jiggy you could have one on each brake line then when you got the Dana300 mounted you could have the option to spin on any of the 4 wheels for mega tight turns......

yeah, I considered those, but I'm sure there's some MSA ruling that says I cant have brake lines in the Cab etc, yup one on each wheel that'd rock, however I get confused between rear winch out, front winch in, hand throttle on, 1st gear and drive, all at the same time, plus someone talking in my ear, so I'd have no hope with that set up

I believe I will be able (if I fit my buzzered overide switch) to flick the line lock on, then pump the footbrake to the desired level of braking, however time will tell, also whether that'd be any use or not......I don't know what the implications are of fitting fiddle brakes

Sounds pretty trick, hope its as easy as it sounds.
I went for the mechanical solution for no issues at MOT time. I went from drums on the rear to discs a long time back (got sick of cleaning out/replacing shoes every othe trip), had to upgrade the rear calipers from Rover to Cosworth when I switched to 33's, but the caliper's built in park brake a bit marginal even then, sneaked thru mot purely 'cos its an auto with park, but I dare not rely on that on steep slopes, or rather disengaging it!. So just trying to kill off the issue once and for all, hope its overkill really!

my handbrake via the cables is still attached so no problems come mot time, i am running ssbc rear discs, which may help in general braking, but the handbrake is sheite, I need to be able to hold the vehicle on steep inclines, during challenge stuff, and I cant hold it on the autobox as my TJ is a manual

Ah-ha, all makes sense now, that would also make a good job of 'tricking' the mot test as long as they have their foot on the brake.
I have to sit with foot on brake, while my wife, aka winch wench does all the running about, which, come to think about it, is not that bad a deal!

OK, finished up this weekend, still needs a bit of work on the cable for proper adjustment, but temp set up for now, road test no noise or vibes,(good start) brake test as I say work to be done on set up, still pulls all the way to the top, but slow speed test on or drive stops dead and tyres squell, then it rolls back, then forward , then back....Oh my God ,its a Landdog thing!
Old set up would have kept rolling a bit even adjusted up tight so reasonably happy.
