Pulley thingy Whats it called ?
« on: June 10, 2012, 09:45:06 AM »

Think I need to get a new top pulley thingamabob, you know the things what the fan belt goes round  :003: as bearings are getting a bit noisey.

Looking from the front of the TJ, its the highest one to the left of centre that proably needs doing first but might be up for changing more at the same time while the belt is removed. Do these things come in sets ???

Anyway, having brain fade, what are these bloody pulley's doodads called folks so I can go searching for the right thing ??

Cheers :003:

Gaz, just replace the bearings.

I think they are 6203RS but if you get the pulleys off, press them out and then visit the local bearing emporium. I use Central bearings in Redditch or there is simply bearings on the net but do buy a branded make like skf, etc not your cheapo option

I was wondering if they could be "serviced"

Think when they come off I'll take a trip to central bearings or that there place on the net, wont hurt to have spares on the shelf, nice one Steve  :icon_winkle:

even though the bearings in the pulleys are sealed, the seals can be prized out with a small flat bladed screwdriver and the bearings re-packed with grease and then the seals re-fitted back in place. this as what I did to mine as the grease had dried out making the pulleys noisy, but caught it before it damaged the bearings. not such an issue with the idler pulley, but is with the pulley on the auto tensioner as cant replace the bearing in that. have to buy the whole damn thing otherwise
