Wiring
« on: June 28, 2012, 11:06:53 PM »

Im contemplating some daylight running led lights for my 2009 G Cherokee . I want them ignition switched. Has anyone installeany and/or can anyone suggest/identify a useful ign switched 12v source (they draw bugger all current) or a trigger for a relay located under the bonnet ?

Cheers

if you want them on the ignition run a signal wire from a switched device like the radio or ciggy lighter to a relay

Yes cigarette lighter is my usual choice for ignition switched relay trigger but I would like to avoid farting around coming through the bulkhead area. There's shed
Lads of wiring under the bonnet I just don't know what's what lol

Does your horn sound with the ignition off?

the horn is normally permenant live.

wired into the cig lighter, just fuse the lights as some of the wiring can be low rated.

use a multimeter to check what is switched live in around the fuse box and splice into that feed (add a fuse)

I'm well happy wielding the multi meter, what I was wonder in a nutshell is are there any known suitable ign switched 12v either or supply or trigger lurking under the bonnet ?

Not sure if there would be.
it's not like the old iron where theres a switched live to the coil and the fuel solenoid etc.

the ECU controls most of the wiring in the new stuff so the lighter is pos the best option

If newer Jeeps are still similar set up the ASD and fuel pump relays in the PDC are switched 12V. But only for first two seconds the ignition is on or when the engine is cranking or running. I can't tell you what the wire colours would be if you have tham as I don't have any FSMs that new.
